FLAT BREAD | |
1 pkg. dry yeast 1/4 c. warm water 2 tbsp. butter 1 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. salt 3/4 c. warm milk 2 1/2 to 3 c. sifted flour Soften yeast in warm water. Combine in mixing bowl the butter, sugar, salt and warm milk. Add 1 cup of flour, stir well, then add the yeast mixture. Gradually add enough flour to make a soft dough. Turn out on a floured surface, cover with a bowl, let rest for 10 minutes. Knead lightly until smooth, 4-5 minutes. Place in greased bowl, cover and let rise in a warm place until light, about 45 minutes. Divide dough in half. Put each half into a 9 inch greased cake pan. Let rest for 5 minutes. Then press dough to edge of pan. Prick all over with a fork. Let rise in a warm place until light, about 30 minutes. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown. CHEESE TOPPING: 2 tbsp. chopped onion 1/4 c. butter (melted) 1/2 tsp. paprika 1/2 tsp. oregano 1/4 tsp. celery seed 1/4 tsp. garlic salt 1 c. shredded Cheddar cheese Combine all ingredients together except the Cheddar cheese. Spread topping on bread, then prick all over, then sprinkle the cheese on. This amount is supposed to go on both loaves, but I put it all on one, and just spread butter on the other one. If you want the cheese topping on both loaves, double the recipe. Can also be used for pizza crust. Do not let rise after you put in pizza pan. Put topping on and bake. |
