OLD-FASHIONED POUND CAKE 
Makes 2 large loaves.

1 lb. (4 1/2 c.) plain cake flour, sifted
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. mace or nutmeg
1 lb. butter
1 lb. (2 1/4 c.) sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 lb. (10) eggs, slightly beaten

Mix sifted flour with salt and mace or nutmeg. Beat butter until creamy. Add sugar gradually, beating well. Add vanilla, then eggs by 4-5 portions, beating thoroughly. Add flour 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well. Turn batter into 2 greased and floured loaf pans. Level out. Bake 20 minutes at 325 degrees, then raise to 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until crack on top browns. Cool, remove from pans. Enjoy warm or cold!
