SAUERBEEF STEW | |
2 lb. beef cubes 5 c. water 2/3 c. vinegar 1 tbsp. pickling spice 1/4 c. sugar 1 med. onion, sliced 10 gingersnap cookies In large pot combine beef cubes, water, and vinegar. Bring to a boil. Add sugar and pickling spice (place spice in spice ball or cheesecloth before adding to pot). Boil about 1 hour adding onions the last 15 minutes. After 1 hour remove spice ball from pot. Crumble 10 gingersnap cookies and add just enough water to make a paste. Add this mixture to the pot and simmer until thick. 8 to 10 servings. |
