1 pkg. dates, cut up
1 1/2 c. hot water
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 c. butter
2 beaten eggs
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs. Add the dry ingredients alternately with date mixture. Pour in 9x13 pan.

TOPPING:

1/2 c. sugar
1 pkg. chocolate chips
3/4 c. chopped nuts

Sprinkle over batter. Bake 35 minutes at 350 degrees.
