SOUR MILK BISCUITS | |
2 c. sifted flour 1/2 tsp. baking soda 2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 3 to 4 tbsp. shortening 3/4 c. sour milk Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, and soda. Add cold shortening and mix with hand until it looks like coarse cornmeal. Add milk, stir about 20 seconds. Turn out on lightly floured board. Knead about 20 strokes. (Add flour if needed.) Roll out to 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch thick. Cut. Place in greased pan. Bake in hot oven (400°F) 12 to 15 minutes. Can add about 1 Tbsp. sugar and use for shortcakes. Makes 12 biscuits. |
