1 lb. hamburger 1/4 c. milk 1 tsp. salt 1 egg 1/2 c. dry bread crumbs 2 tbsp. finely chopped onion 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce Mix ingredients. Shape into 20 (1 1/2") balls. Cook over medium heat, turning occasionally, until brown, about 20 minutes. Or cook in ungreased oblong pan in 400 degree oven until light brown, 20 to 25 minutes. SWEDISH MEATBALLS: Meatballs as above except substitute 1/2 pound ground pork for 1/2 pound hamburger and half and half for the milk. Mix in 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice. Cook in skillet. SWEET-AND-SOUR MEATBALLS: Meatballs, as above 1 tbsp. cornstarch 1/3 c. vinegar 1 sm. green pepper, chopped 1/2 c. packed brown sugar 1 (13 1/4 oz.) can pineapple chunks 1 tbsp. soy sauce Cook meatballs in skillet; remove. Drain fat from skillet. Mix brown sugar and cornstarch in skillet. Stir in pineapple (with syrup), vinegar and soy sauce. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Reduce heat. Add meatballs. Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, approximately 10 minutes. Stir in green pepper. Cover and simmer again until crisp-tender, 5 minutes. |
