CHERRY - NUT CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. milk
1 sm. bottle maraschino cherries, cut into pieces
1/3 c. chopped walnuts
1 tsp. cherry juice
1 tsp. vanilla
3 egg whites, beaten stiff

Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly; add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk and beat smooth. Add flavorings, cherries, and nuts; fold in egg whites. Bake in layer pans at 325 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
