ORANGE OR LEMON BREAD | |
1/2 c. butter 1 c. sugar 2 eggs, slightly beaten 1 1/2 c. sifted flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. milk grated peel of 1 lemon or orange 1/2 c. chopped nuts, if desired Cream butter, sugar and eggs. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with milk. Add lemon or orange peel and nuts. Bake in greased loaf pan 9 X 5 X 2. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour or until no indentation remains when touched lightly in center. Cool slightly. Remove from pan and poke holes all over the top of the bread and pour glaze over it, letting it run into the bread. Glaze: juice of 1 lemon or orange 1/2 c. sugar |
