2 c. med. chopped walnuts 1/3 c. sugar 1 lb. filo dough 1 lb. drawn butter Basic syrup (shown below) Combine nuts and sugar. In buttered 10"x14" pan, brush each layer of filo dough with butter. When half way through the layering, place nut mixture in 1/2" to 3/4" layer. Then continue layering buttered filo on top. When completed, cut diamond shaped pieces. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until golden brown. Then pour cold syrup over pan of Baklava. Be sure the dough is well saturated. BASIC SYRUP: 2 c. sugar 1 c. water 1/2 tsp. lemon juice Combine in saucepot, boil over medium heat about 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. |
