ENGLISH TOFFEE 
1 c. butter (butter does not work)
1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. water
chopped almonds or pecans (optional)
3-4 Hershey bars
vanilla extract

Cook butter, sugar and water in a heavy aluminum saucepan, stirring constantly until it reaches 300 degrees on a candy thermometer.

Add 1 teaspoon vanilla after removing from the burner. Pour onto a buttered cookie sheet. Spread. Break 3-4 Hershey bars and sprinkle on top of candy. Spread with a rubber spatula after it melts. You may top with chopped pecans or almonds. Chill then break into pieces.
