GABBY HAYES CHOCOLATE CAKE | |
2 c. sugar 1/2 c. butter 2 eggs, room temperature 1/2 c. buttermilk, room temperature 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 2 1/2 squares Bakers unsweetened chocolate dissolved in 1 c. boiling water 2 c. sifted cake flour 1 tsp. vanilla Melt chocolate in water; set aside. Cream sugar and butter. Add eggs, vanilla and beat until creamy. Sift flour with soda, baking powder and salt. Add dry mixture alternately with buttermilk and chocolate mixture to the creamed mixture while beating. Batter should be smooth. Pour into greased 9"x13" cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Frost while warm with: 3 c. powdered sugar Pinch of salt 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tbsp. butter Add milk to make a spreading consistency. Beat all together. Frost cake. |
