OLD FASHIONED GINGER SNAPS 
2 1/2 c. whole wheat flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
3/4 c. (1 1/2 sticks) butter, softened
1 egg
1/2 c. molasses
1 c. light brown sugar, firmly packed
Granulated sugar

Mix flour, soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon and cloves in bowl. Beat butter, sugar, egg and molasses in a large bowl until well blended. Stir in flour mixture until dough is smooth. Shape dough a level tablespoon at a time into balls with palms of hands. Roll in sugar. Place two inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake in moderate oven at 375 degrees for 8 minutes or slightly firm to touch. Yield 3 dozen.
