STRING BEANS AND WATER CHESTNUTS 
3 lg. cans French style green beans
1 can French fried onions
1 sm. can water chestnuts, sliced
1 can cream of mushroom soup
3 slices chopped bacon for seasoning
1 sm. onion, chopped

In a large kettle, saute bacon and onions. Add 1 quart water and green beans. Cook for 1 hour. Drain beans and use 1 can of the cooking water to dilute the soup. In a casserole, layer first beans, then sliced water chestnuts, then French fried onions, continue layering and top with Progresso bread crumbs. Bake in 300 degree oven for 20-30 minutes. Freezes very well.
