HOMEMADE CAKE FROM SCRATCH 
2 sticks (1/2 lb.) butter
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 c. milk
3 c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. lemon extract

Cream butter and sugar together until lightly creamy, add eggs, one at a time and beat. Add milk, flavoring, flour. Stir and mix well. Then beat or whip until light and creamy.

Bake at 350°F until cake comes from side of pan.

I am using this recipe now. I didn't have milk, so I substituted with light sour cream. Also added coconut non dairy creamer. And a bag of chocolate chips. I'm winging it on the time, checking after 30 min. Wish I would've used just flavored creamer instead of sour cream, but perhaps I'll experiment and use this to build on.
