FOR ICING:

2 tbsp. milk

Mix flour and salt in large bowl. Cut in shortening with pastry blender. Add milk and egg yolk; mix well. Roll out 1/2 the dough into a rectangle about 10 1/2 x 15 1/2 inches. Transfer to ungreased jelly roll pan. Spread crushed Corn Flakes over dough. Arrange apple slices on top. Combine 1 cup sugar and 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon; sprinkle over apple slices. Dot with thin slices of butter. Roll out remaining dough to a second rectangle to fit over top. Place top layer of dough over apples. Beat egg white until foamy; brush beaten egg white over top. Sprinkle additional sugar and cinnamon to taste on top. Brush with melted butter. Sprinkle again with sugar and cinnamon. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 45 minutes. Combine confectioners sugar and milk for icing. Drizzle over Danish while it is still warm. This is especially good served warm with vanilla ice cream. Makes 15 to 20 servings.
