2/3 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 c. orange juice
2 tbsp. grated orange rind
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. salt

Mix first 3 ingredients thoroughly. Stir in remaining ingredients. Blend well. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes at 400 degrees until delicately browned on edges. Cool and frost with icing.

ORANGE BUTTER ICING:

2 1/2 tbsp. butter, soft
1 1/2 c. confectioners' sugar
1 1/2 tbsp. orange juice
2 tsp. orange rind, grated
