FISH BATTER 
1 c. white or yellow corn meal
1 c. flour
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. baking powder
1 egg
3/4 c. milk
1 c. water

Mix first five ingredients together well. Mix egg, milk, and water well, then pour in dry ingredients. Mix well again. Let batter stand 15 to 20 minutes. Place fish on a platter; salt and pepper to taste. Dip in batter. Fry in hot oil or shortening (350 degrees) 2 to 3 inches deep.
