APPLE & BANANA FRITTERS IN
NUTMEG BATTER
 
1/2 c. flour plus additional
1 tbsp. sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
2 tbsp. beaten egg
1/2 c. white wine
1 banana
2 tart apples, such as Granny Smith
Oil for deep frying
Sugar or cinnamon sugar for dusting

Combine the 1/2 cup flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, salt, nutmeg. With a fork beat an egg to mix, measure out 2 tablespoons and stir flour mixture with the wine. Stir into flour mixture until smooth. Peel bananas and cut into diagonal slices. Core and peel apples. Cut into rings. Heat oil in a large pot or deep fryer, 380 degrees. Dry fruit slices, dredge in flour and shake off excess. Dip into batter and let excess drip off. Slip coated fruit into hot fat. Fry until golden brown, about 4 minutes. While still warm, dredge in granulated or cinnamon sugar.
