OLD FASHIONED BUNS 
1/2 c. lukewarm water
1 pkg. yeast
1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 1/2 c. lukewarm water
6 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/3 c. soft shortening, part butter

Sprinkle yeast in lukewarm water and let stand for a few minutes. Put sugar, salt, egg and lukewarm water in a large bowl. Add yeast and stir together with spoon. Stir in 3 cups flour, add shortening. The add remaining flour gradually. Work by hand if necessary. Work until smooth and easy to handle. Cover and let rise for 1 1/2 hours. Shape into rolls or in biscuit tin. Let rise until high. Bake 20 to 25 minutes in 400 degree oven.
