JAM CAKE 
1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1 c. butter
4 eggs
1 c. dates
2 c. jam (blackberry)
1 c. buttermilk with 1 tsp. baking soda
3 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 1/2 c. walnuts

Cut dates and cook in 1/2 cup water over low heat until water is absorbed, let cool and add soda to buttermilk and mix and set aside. Cream butter and sugar; add eggs, dates, jam, mix spices into flour and add flour to mixture in 3 parts alternating with milk, in last flour add nuts and coat good before adding to mixture. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 1/2 hours and at 325 degrees until done. Use tube pan.
