1 c. chopped dates
1 c. boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. butter
2/3 c. sugar
1 1/3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine dates, boiling water, and soda and set aside. Mix all other ingredients until well blended. When well blended add date mixture. Bake approximately 30 minutes at 350 degrees in a 9 x 9 inch pan. Ice with caramel icing. (This is rich - serve small portions.)
