FRIED GREEN TOMATOES 
6 half ripe or green tomatoes, sliced
1 c. cornmeal
1 c. vegetable shortening
Salt to taste

Heat shortening in fry pan. Add salt to sliced tomatoes, then dip in cornmeal and cover both sides with cornmeal. Fry until brown on both sides. Serves 6.
