1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. butter
1 egg
1 c. hot water
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. chopped dates
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla

Pour hot water over dates and baking soda. Let stand until you mix other ingredients. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until done.
