MRS. ELMER'S MOLASSES COOKIES | |
1 1/2 sticks butter 1 c. sugar 1 lg. egg 4 tbsp. light Brer Rabbit Molasses 2 1/3 c. all-purpose flour 2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/2 tsp. ground ginger 1/2 c. cloves 1 tsp. vanilla Cream together butter and sugar. Add egg and molasses; cream well. Sift in a separate bowl flour, soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and vanilla. Sift together well, chill overnight. Roll balls the size of a walnut. Dip one side in water and then in the sugar mixture. This makes the cookies crackle on top. Bake 325 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. The baking is the secret of these cookies. They must not be baked too long. The salt is in the butter. |
