OLD FASHIONED APPLE CRISP | |
2 qt. pyrex baking dish 8 tart apples, peeled and sliced thin (I like Cortland the best for this recipe) 1/2 c. packed dark brown sugar 1/2 c. packed light brown sugar 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. salt 1 stick butter 1/2 c. coarsely chopped nuts Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter pyrex dish. Spread sliced apples in dish and dot with butter. In separate bowl, combine flour, sugar, cinnamon and salt. Cut in stick of butter using 2 knifes. Do not work butter in using your hands. When mixture resembles cornmeal-like crumbs, you may add your nuts. I have used walnuts or pecans. Sprinkle mixture on top of apples and bake for 40-50 minutes. Serve warm with your favorite vanilla ice cream. |
