SEPTEMBER CASSEROLE 
3 tart apples, sliced, peeled
1 med. head cabbage, cored, sliced thin
3 lg. potatoes, peeled and sliced thin
1 med. onion, chopped
6 tbsp. butter
1 c. heavy cream
1/2 c. bread crumbs
1/2 c. Cheddar cheese, grated

Place 1/3 of first 4 ingredients. Dot with 2 tablespoons of butter. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Repeat twice. Pour on cream. Cover with foil. Bake 45 minutes at 350 degrees Uncover, sprinkle with crumbs-cheese mixture and dot with butter. Return to oven another 5 to 10 minutes.
