SOUTHERN CORN BREAD 
2 c. sifted cornmeal
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 sm. egg
1/2 c. water
1 tbsp. fat
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Sift cornmeal, baking powder and salt together in mixing bowl. Mix soda with buttermilk and add to dry ingredients. Add egg and beat well. Add water to make a medium-thick batter. Grease skillet with fat and pour batter in and bake at 450 degrees for 25 minutes.
