2 1/2 c. flour
2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
2 c. applesauce
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9 x 13 inch pan. Beat all ingredients in a large mixing bowl on low speed for 30 seconds, then beat on high for 30 minutes, scraping the sides occasionally. Pour into pan. Bake for 1 hour. Cool completely then top it with vanilla frosting.
