SUGAR CRINKLE COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 lg. egg
2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Cream shortening, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and egg until fluffy. Sift flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt together and sift into creamed mixture. Mix to blend.

Using about 1 tablespoon dough per cookie, roll in hand into small ball and dip in granulated sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. DO NOT FLATTEN.

Bake at 300°F for 12 minutes. Cool before storing.
