HAMBURGER SOUP 
1 1/2 lb. lean hamburger (do not brown)
2 to 3 qt. water
1 c. chopped onion
2 c. chopped celery
4 to 6 carrots, chopped
4 to 5 potatoes, cubed
1 head cabbage, cut
Other vegetables of choice (rutabagas, beans, corn, peas, tomatoes, parsnips
- any or all these)
3 tbsp. beef base
Pepper, basil & thyme to taste
Salt
1 bay leaf
1/4 to 1/2 c. barley or rice, if desired

Place all ingredients together in a large soup pot and cook until vegetables are tender. Serve.
