CRUNCHIES | |
2 c. Cheerios 2 c. chow mein noodles 2 c. Pretzels (if large, break into small pieces) 2 c. wheat chex 2 c. rice chex 2 c. corn chex 1 c. roasted nuts (peanuts, cashews, etc.) 1/2 c. packed brown sugar 1/2 c. honey 1/2 c. butter 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 tsp. baking soda Combine cereals, pretzels, noodles and nuts in a clean brown grocery bag. Mix to combine and set aside. Combine brown sugar, butter and honey in a 2 quart mix and pour bowl. Microwave high, uncovered, 3 to 3 1/2 minutes or until mixture boils, stirring once to dissolve sugar. Stir to blend mixture and then microwave low (30%) 4 minutes, until mixture is golden brown. Stir in vanilla and baking soda (soda will cause the mixture to foam). Pour over dry ingredients in the bag. Toss to coat evenly. Microwave high, with mixture in the brown bag, for 6 to 7 minutes, stir every 2 minutes. Pour onto waxed paper, cool. Store in tightly covered container. Makes 14 cups. If you like the crunchies to be less toasted (and feel a little sticky) you can go 5 to 6 minutes. Will burn if much over 8 minutes. |
