DATE LOAF CANDY 
3 c. white granulated sugar
1 c. milk
1 (7 oz.) pkg. pitted, chopped dates
1 c. chopped pecans
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. butter

Bring sugar and milk slowly to boiling, add chopped dates. Boil to firm ball stage (about 15 to 20 minutes). Take from heat, let cool. Beat until creamy, then add nuts, vanilla and butter. If candy sets up too fast while beating, add a small amount of hot water, then stir. Form into roll (or rolls) on DAMP (not wet) white cloth, wrap cloth around roll and put in refrigerator. When ready to serve, slice rolls into 1/4- to 1/2-inch slices.
