JAM CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
3 eggs
3 c. sifted flour
1 c. chopped dates
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. seedless blackberry jam
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. flaked coconut
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and mix well. Combine buttermilk and soda; beat with a fork. Add jam and beat. Add alternately with flour mixed with spices. Stir and mix well. Add dates and nuts and stir well. Bake at 325 degrees for 45-60 minutes in a tube cake pan, well greased and floured.
