HOMEMADE BISCUITS 
1 qt. buttermilk
2 c. shortening (pure lard)
1 heaping tbsp. baking powder
Self-rising flour

Dissolve buttermilk, lard and baking powder in electric mixer thoroughly, then gradually add flour until it is so thick the mixer slows down. Pour onto floured biscuit board and knead a little more flour in if necessary. Roll out dough 1/4 inch thick and cut with a biscuit cutter. Oil pan and bake at 450 degrees until brown.
