VINEGAR PIE
1 c. hot water
3 tbsp. vinegar
4 tbsp. butter
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Mix flour, sugar and spices. Sift into hot water. Pour into casserole dish. Drop strips of dough (recipe below) into mixture, leaving some of the strips on top. Top with butter. Bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees until golden brown.

CRUST:

1 c. flour
1/4 c. cold water
1/2 c. shortening

Cream 1/2 cup flour with shortening. Add water; mix well. Add rest of flour; mix lightly. Roll out and cut into strips.

This recipe goes back to pioneer days. Many times there were no fruit or eggs for anything sweet, so this Vinegar Pie was much appreciated.
