BUTTERMILK BISCUITS 
2 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 c. shortening
3/4 c. buttermilk

In a medium mixing bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, soda, salt and shortening. Cut in shortening until mixture is crumbly. Add buttermilk; stir to just moisten.

Turn dough onto lightly floured surface. Quickly knead dough by gently folding and pressing 10 to 12 times. Pat dough into 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter and place on lightly greased baking sheet about 1/2-inch apart.

Bake at 400°F for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Makes 10 to 12.
