1 c. Crisco
2 c. sugar
3 c. flour
4 eggs
3 tsp. baking powder
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/8 tsp. salt

Cream Crisco and sugar thoroughly; beat in 1 egg at a time until all 4 are added. Stir in part of sifted flour and baking powder. Mix thoroughly, then alternately add milk and flour. Bake in three 9 inch layer pans for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

WHITE SATIN ICING:

2 egg whites
1 1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 tbsp. lemon juice or 1 tbsp. corn syrup
5 tbsp. water
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Dash of salt

Put all ingredients with the exception of vanilla into the top of a double boiler. In the bottom part of the double boiler bring water to a rolling boil. Stir the mixture in the top part of the boiler until the sugar dissolves. Place it over the boiling water. Allow to cook for 3 minutes without stirring. Remove the boiler from the range. Beat icing over the hot water for 10 minutes with electric mixer on "high" speed. Add flavoring.
