CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES WITH NUTS 
2 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 (12 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces (2 c.)
1 c. chopped walnuts or pecans

Stir together flour, soda, and salt. In a mixer bowl beat butter and shortening on medium speed of electric mixer for 30 seconds. Add sugars and beat until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Add dry ingredients to beaten mixture, beating until well blended. Stir in chocolate pieces and nuts. Drop from a teaspoon, 2 inches apart, onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until done. Remove; cool. Makes about 72.
