SOFT PRETZELS | |
1 pkg. active dry yeast 1 1/2 c. warm water 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. sugar 3 1/2 - 4 c. all-purpose flour 1 egg, beaten Coarse salt Dissolve yeast in warm water in large mixing bowl. Stir in 1 teaspoon salt, the sugar and 2 cups flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to make dough easy to handle. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface. Knead until smooth and elastic, 5 minutes. Place in greased bowl, turning greased side up. Cover and let rise until doubled, approximately 45 to 60 minutes. Heat oven to 425 degrees. Punch dough down, cut into 16 equal parts. Roll each part into a rope 18" long. Twist rope into pretzel shape. Place on greased baking sheet. Brush with beaten egg, sprinkle with salt. Bake until brown 15 to 20 minutes. |
