DOUGHY D'S (SOFT PRETZELS) 
1 1/2 c. pg. lukewarm water
1 pkg. yeast
4 c. flour
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 tbsp. water
1/3 c. coarse salt

In large mixing bowl, place the lukewarm water and pour in the package of yeast. Let mixture sit until bubble (about 5 minutes). Sift 3 cups of flour, sugar and 1 teaspoon of salt into the yeast mixture. Stir until the ingredients are well blended and form a ball.

Place the dough on a lightly floured board and knead the dough for about 5 minutes. As you knead the dough, add the fourth cup of flour. The dough should be smooth and not sticky. Pull the dough into 20 pieces.

Roll each into a long snake about 1/2 inch thick and 15 inches long. Shape into D's-or whatever you like. Grease baking sheets and place the pretzel on the sheets. Allow several inches between each one. Combine the egg and with 1 tablespoon water and mix well. Paint this on the pretzels and sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake at 425 degrees for about 20 minutes. Cool on racks.
