GREEN TOMATO PICKLES 
Soak 7 pounds of green sliced tomatoes in 2 gallons of water to which 2 cups of hydrated slack lime has been added. Soak 24 hours, stirring several times.

Wash the tomatoes under clear running cold water.

Soak tomatoes for 5 hours in ice water. Keep adding ice to keep cold.

Bring to boil: 3 pt. white vinegar 1 c. water 1 tsp. whole cloves 1 tsp. powdered mace 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. celery seed 1 cinnamon stick

Pour this mixture over drained, washed tomatoes. Let stand overnight. Cook slowly for one hour or until liquid is clear. Put into sterilized jars and seal. Makes 10 to 12 pints.
