APPLE STACK CAKE | |
1/2 c. Crisco 1 1/2 c. sugar 1 c. molasses 1 c. buttermilk 1/2 tsp. baking soda Put Crisco, sugar, molasses, buttermilk and soda on stove to get warm, "not hot." Add flour until you can work it dry. Also add 2 teaspoons vanilla flavoring. Grease an iron griddle; press out with hands to match the shape of the griddle. Bake in a hot oven at 450°F. Check after 6 to 7 minutes. Turn out on a plate and cover with seasoned, cooked, mashed and dried apples. Bake another layer and do the same..... If you do not have dried apples, you may use evaporated apples from the grocery. You can fix ahead of time and keep the apples in refrigerator. Wrap well and it is better baked several days before serving. This cake freezes well; just bake, wrap well as soon as possible and freeze. |
