FILLED ICEBOX COOKIES 
1 c. butter
1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
3 eggs
4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

FILLING:

1 lb. dates, chopped
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. nuts (any kind)

Cream butter and sugars until fluffy. Add well beaten eggs. Add vanilla, flour, soda, and salt. Roll dough 1/4 inch thick, half at a time.

Filling: Cook dates, water, sugar, and nuts for 10 minutes. Cool. Spread filling on dough, then roll as jelly roll. Wrap in wax paper. Put in refrigerator overnight. Slice 1/4 inch thick. Bake 8 to 10 minutes at 375 degrees.

Make filling so it can cool while making dough.
