2 c. raisins and/or dates
2 c. sugar
2 c. water
1 c. shortening or butter
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
Dash of salt
3 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. chopped nuts

Put raisins, sugar, water, shortening, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, and dash of salt in a large pot. Bring to a boil. Let cool. Add flour, soda, and nuts. Pour into 9 x 11 inch pan and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
