CHUCK WAGON BEANS | |
2 lbs. ground (chuck) meat 1 lg. onion, chopped fine 2 lg. cans tomato paste 1/4 tsp. garlic salt 1/2 tsp. chili powder 1/2 c. brown sugar, packed 1/2 c. sorghum molasses 1/2 bottle Masterpiece barbecue sauce (mesquite flavor preferred) 2 cans Showboat pork and beans 3 tbsp. castor oil Mix castor oil with pork and beans in a small bowl and let stand to add as last ingredient (castor oil is not tasted, but helps cause no gas from beans). In large iron skillet, heat 2 tablespoons oil to grease well (or spray with skillet spray). Add ground beef and onions and brown, stirring often to break up meat. Then add remaining ingredients (except beans and castor oil). Cook until meat is done (all pink color gone) and onions are clear. Stir well, add beans and castor oil. Turn to low and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Put into a large casserole or bowl and serve. Makes a large meal. We eat crackers with it, and have no gas after. |
