NEW ORLEANS BREAD PUDDING | |
1 loaf day old French bread 1 qt. milk 4 eggs 1 1/2 c. sugar 1 1/2 c. half and half cream 2 tbsp. vanilla 3 tbsp. butter 1 c. white raisins Cube and soak bread in milk and half and half. Crush with hands until well mixed. Then add eggs, sugar, vanilla and raisins and stir well. Pour melted butter in bottom of thick baking pan and bake at 350°F until firm. Let cool. Cube to serve and put into individual serving dishes. Serve with hot Rum or Whiskey Sauce. Whiskey or Rum Sauce: 1 c. butter 1/2 c. confectioners sugar 1 beaten egg whiskey or rum Melt butter over low heat. Whisk in sugar. Pour 1/2 the melted butter mixture into beaten egg. Whisk. Add to remaining butter/sugar mixture. Cook until starts to boil and then cool until thickened. Add liquor to taste. |
