2 c. yogurt 1/4 c. sour cream (optional), reduce yogurt 1 lg. cucumber (English preferred) 3/4 tsp. cumin seeds, grounded 1/4 tsp. mustard seeds, grounded (optional) 1 clove garlic (optional) 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1/3 tsp. fresh green chilies, crushed (optional) 1/4 c. chopped cilantro for garnish (optional) Use English cucumber (with skin); wash and grate. If using other cucumber, then peel and take seeds out and grate. Squeeze out excess juice from the grated cucumber. To the grated cucumber add all the above and garnish with finely chopped cilantro. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve. Best served cold. This salad is a very popular dish which can be served with spicy dish. You can keep it very simple or you can add all the ingredients above and make it very tasty. If you are using sour cream, reduce the yogurt in the same amount. |
