MAMA TROTTER'S CHICKEN AND
DUMPLINGS
 
1 (2 1/2 or 3 lb.) chicken, cut into pieces
Salt and pepper
2 tbsp. butter
2 c. milk
Poultry seasoning

Bring kettle of water to a boil. Add chicken and bring back to a boil. Then cook chicken slowly. When chicken is tender, add butter and milk.

DUMPLINGS:

2 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. shortening, melted
3/4 c. milk

Mix together all ingredients; roll out on floured board. Cut and drop into boiling water a few at a time. Lower heat; cover pot and let cook slowly for about 20 minutes without stirring dumplings.
