SMOOTH CARAMEL ICING 
2 c. sugar, use part brown sugar (at least 1/2 brown)
1/2 c. milk
1 stick butter
2 tsp. vanilla

Bring sugar, milk and butter to a full boil stirring well before a full boil. Do not stir while boiling the one minute. Cool stirring once in a while. Put on cake after it gets thick enough.
