GRANDMA'S NEVER FAIL SPONGE CAKE 
4 eggs, separated
1 c. sugar
4 tbsp. cold water
Pinch salt
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla or lemon flavoring

Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon colored. Add sugar; mix well. Add water and beat. Sift in salt, flour and baking powder. Blend. Stir in flavoring. Beat egg whites until stiff; fold into mixture. Bake in tube pan (ungreased) at 350 degrees about 45-55 minutes.

FOR JELLY ROLL:

Bake on a greased 10 x 15 x 1 inch baking pan for 15 to 20 minutes at 350 degrees. Roll up in a cloth while hot When cool, unroll; spread with jelly or your favorite filling and re-roll.
